Night Walks
I started this ongoing series in 2021 while walking around the block in my
neighborhood at night. I continue to hunt for moody, atmospheric
pictures in familiar neighborhoods and environments that feel both
thrilling and quietly foreboding. The scenes are ordinary but ominous, a
light on in a dark house, the setting for a tale about to unfold.
I combine photography with thread by sewing on my photographs using free-motion machine embroidery. Sewing allows me to get my hands into the photograph, and thread changes the pictures into something more dimensional and textural.
